Southern Province

Currently, information technology is spreading very rapidly in Sri Lanka. It is having a major impact in the country politically, socially, technically and scientifically.

It has become necessary to turn to information technology to maintain an efficient public service. But unfortunately the trend of information technology towards public service is happening very slowly.

There is a popular opinion among the public that the public service is inefficient. In the past, that opinion was more popular. At present, the public service is used for office work to some extent.

In such an environment, we will be able to win the favor of the people, which is the expectation of the current government, by developing the website of our institution.

Objectives, Authority & Functions

The Southern Province Engineering Services Unit is the legal institution for providing technical consultancy from architectural design until construction is completed while maintaining quality control & assurance in any engineering construction of the Southern Province public service.

We have been entrusted with the legal authority to control all engineering consultancy, supervision, maintenance and all other activities related to the construction sector following the standards for the construction works in the Southern Province.

Accordingly, our institution is responsible for architectural design, structural design, mechanical and electrical engineering services, estimating, procurement, awarding tenders to qualified contractors, construction supervision and payment, recommendation and approval of contractors' bills.

For this, our institution has a staff of well experienced chartered engineers, chartered architects, draughtsman, technical officers, accountants, administrative officers, development officers and management assistants.
